How can you help your scholar excel in History?
US History Overview
US History is a course designed to give our seventh grade scholars a solid foundation in early American history, civics and government. History has a strong focus on literacy to increase the reading, writing and critical thinking skills of our scholars. Along with the class BIG goal of earning 80% mastery or higher on all US History standards, we are preparing to excel on the US History Regents Exam at the end of 8th grade.
Essential Questions:
1. Am I an American?
2. Who am I as an American?
3. Is nationalism a fading concept?
4. What is social justice? How can we create a just society with an unjust history?
What can you do to help?
Parents and can (and should) take the following steps to help their scholars excel in US History by taking some or all of the following actions:
1. Check US History HW each night for the following components
2. Encourage your scholar to utilize this website regularly and email to explore websites related to class content and email Ms. Brown with questions and interesting resources discovered
3. Encourage your scholar to check out books from the US History library in Brooklyn College
4. Keep maps and globes in the house, study maps and play map games with your scholar. When traveling allow them to be the navigator.
5. Follow the news, encourage your scholar to read the newspaper and discuss current events regularly. This is an exciting time being that it is an election year! Ask your scholar their opinions about important issues of the day and encourage them to support their opinions with factual details.
