This year we will explore the major themes in the history of the United States from the Early Americans to the Civil War. Not only will we be studying the actions of Presidents and other leaders, we will also look at how common people lived and acted. We will compare the different experiences of various religious, ethnic, racial and social classes.
The intent of this course is to introduce the concepts, materials and tools used in the discipline of history and to develop our writing and critical thinking skills. By the end of the year you will have developed the skills, knowledge and capability to think clearly and critically, to ask and research significant questions, read historically materials intelligently, and to express your ideas in a logical and concise manner.
